HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY from ‘Anini Beach! (Kilauea lighthouse closed, sad)
Hanalei Valley Lookout
Waikanaloa wet cave
Snorkeling & a napping monk seal at Ke’e Beach. The lifeguards seemed more concerned about keeping people off the reef and away from the seal than about the people! Teddy and Timmy kept gesturing to the seal to “get up!”
Ke’e beach is the end of the road from the northwest. Betsy and I left the boys there and hiked part of the Kalalau Trail.
Two lookouts along the Kalalau Trail
Hanapepe Valley Lookout
A billow of red smoke blows across the road, the same red dirt they use to make Red Dirt Shirts! We stop in Hanapepe for their Friday night art night, on the way to Polihale State Park.
Where the road ends on the southwest, we continue a few miles on a dirt road to get to Polihale Beach, as far as we can drive coming up from the south side.
The forbidden island of Ni’ihau behind us
A sunset that lit up the sky
